EDINBURG, May 23.—William Bowman, 69 years old, a former resident and prominent business man of Edinburg, passed away Monday afternoon at his home in Carmangay, Canada, following a long illness of heart trouble. Mr. Bowman was critically ill about a year ago but had regained his strength and was apparently in better health until about two weeks ago when his condition became critical and his death was not unexpected by his family.

Mr. Bowman was born near Edinburg the son of John and Mary Milnes Bowman. After his marriage he became engaged in the hardware business in Edinburg and for many years operated the store now owned by the Farmers Supply Company on Main Cross Street. In 1901 Mr. Bowman and his family moved to Madison, Ind., where he was engaged in the lumber business, later moving to Memphis, Tenn., to continue in that business. In 1912 Mr. Bowman moved to Canada where he had lived since that time.

He was married to Miss Ida Drybread in December, 1885, and to them three children were born. Surviving him are the widow, one son, James, and a daughter, Miss Mary, both at home and another daughter, Miss Elva Bowman, instructor in the Edinburg schools and two brothers, Frank, of Edinburg and Charles of Indianapolis.

Mr. Bowman was a member of the Edinburg Christian Church, the Masonic Lodge here and the Scottish Rite and Shriners of Indianapolis. The body will be brought to Edinburg for funeral services and burial and is expected to arrive Friday afternoon. Definite funeral arrangements will be announced later.
