Donald E. Bowman

Donald E. Bowman, 81, of Greenwood, passed away Monday, Oct. 10, 2005, at Select Specialty Hospital in Beech Grove.

He was born April 23, 1924, in Bluffton to Dious and Netta (Erndst) Bowman. He married Joann M. (McClellan) Bowman on Sept. 9, 1949, in Mooresville. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Donna J. Bowman Bland (John) of Green­wood; sons C. Neil Bowman (Joann) of Phoenix, Ariz., Michael E. Bowman (Linda Hamilton Bowman) of Beech Grove, and Joseph M. Bowman (Melissa Pritt Bowman) of Greenwood; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his par­ents; a son, Edward Bowman; a brother, Harold Bowman, and twin infant brothers; four sisters, Ethyl Dedrick, Eileen Miller, Enid McDaniels and Edith Arnold; and one grandson, Nathan Bowman.

Mr. Bowman was a maintenance coordinator for Eli Lilly and Co. on Kentucky Avenue in Indianapolis for 32 years, retiring in 1980.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having been wounded in the Battle of the Bulge and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

He was a member of Jubilee Masonic Lodge 746 in Whiteland, Indianapolis Valley of the Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine, Greenwood American Legion Post 252 and Greenwood Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5864. He had attended Honey Creek United Methodist Church in Greenwood.

The Rev. David Mark Owens will conduct a service at 10 a.m. Friday at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135 in Greenwood, with visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funer­al home. Entombment will be in Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis.
