OBITUARY.

Sarah J. (McAllister) Bishop was born June 20, 1836, in Ross county, Ohio, near the town of Bainbridge, and was married to W. A. Bishop April 17, 1856, and came with him to Johnson County, Ind., where they lived ten years near Bluff Creek P. O. They moved to Greenwood Sept. 19, 1866, residing there ever since except the summer and fall of 1873, residing at this time in Indianapolis.

“Aunt Sarah,” as we all knew her, was a noble Christian wife, mother, neighbor and friend, ever ready with hands, voice and deeds to make people happy; cheering the sick, and aiding the weak. Though not possessing much of worldly goods, she possessed something far better and more enduring—a Christian integrity, an unselfish life; one willingly given to others. She took active interest in the church and Sabbath school, being a teacher in the latter for years, until multiplying domestic duties caused her to relinquish.

She died a triumphant death at 7:45 last Saturday evening, Aug 3d. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church, Monday at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev. F. M. Westhafer, aided by Rev. Robertson, of Brightwood, and Chas. W. Tinsley, of Rushville, Ind. Rev. Tinsley feelingly recounted the virtues of sister Bishop, and the many kindnesses and words of cheer bestowed on and to him during his pastorate, after which her body was committed to the grave to await the resurrection of the saints.

The writer, outside of his own mother, knew no truer or better friend than Aunt Sarah. —W.
