Death of H. J. Bishop.

The Indianapolis Sentinel gave the following details concerning the accident which resulted fatally to H. J. Bishop of this city:

“The car was southbound and the motorman was J. C. Hackney. Just before the car reached the avenue he noticed Mr. Bishop step from the sidewalk and start across the street. He gave the customary warning by ringing the gong, but Bishop paid no attention to it. He appeared to be in a deep study. Hackney supposed he knew the car was coming and would stop and wait for it to pass. When the car was a few feet away from Bishop, however, he did everything in his power to prevent the accident. He threw off the current and rang the gong, at the same time throwing his entire weight on the brake. He also leaned out of the window and yelled for Bishop to stop. The latter deliberately walked in front of the car. Hackney turned his head away and did not see the car strike the unfortunate man. When the car stopped he hurried to the assistance of Mr. Bishop, who was found to be unconscious. The city dispensary ambulance was called and he was taken to the city hospital. The physicians saw that he was in a serious condition and just as they were carrying him into the emergency ward he died. No external injuries were noticed, his body not being mangled or cut.”

He leaves a wife and five children; the latter are Emmett, of Franklin; Arthur, living at Duluth, Minn., A. P. Bishop, a business man of Miami, Mo.; Mrs. Dr. Repp of Tipton, and Mrs. Hayler of Indianapolis, wife of the Monon and C. H. & D. district passenger agent.

The funeral was held at the Christian church in this city Sunday morning, under the direction of the I. O. O. F. of which order deceased was a member. The services were largely attended.
