FRANKLIN — Merle "Bud" Ashley, 66, of Naples, Fla., formerly of Franklin, died Sunday at Naples Community Hospital.

He was a retired Bartholomew and Johnson County farmer.

Funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Wayne Bozell at 10 a.m. Thursday at Vandivier-Parsley Funeral Home here, where persons may call from 6 until 9 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery at Edinburgh.

Ashley was born at Nineveh Sept. 30, 1915, the son of the late Everett Ashley and Lula Swift Ashley, who lives at Franklin. His wife, Helen Bevis Ashley, also survives.

Ashley attended Johnson County schools and was a member of North Naples United Methodist Church. He had lived at Naples since 1965.

Surviving with his wife and mother are three sons, N. Rex and Mark Allen Ashley of Naples and Donald Wayne Ashley of Punta Gorda, Fla.; two brothers, Maurice H. and Marion L. Ashley of Naples; three sisters, Mary Rhude of Cope, Virginia Muldoon of Fort Myers, Fla., and Evelyn Glidden of Naples, and seven grandchildren.
